Brenham, Texas, [May 17, 2019] – REM Surface Engineering has developed the world’s first Extreme ISF® Process Cell for use on small to medium-sized Metal FDM, L-PBF, and Binder Jet Components. This post-process surface finishing cell has been designed to take advantage of REM’s chemically accelerated process technology to maximize cost efficiency while minimizing cycle time. REM’s Extreme ISF® Process Cell is compatible with all stainless steel variants including 17-4, 15-5, and 316/316L, aluminum alloys, carbon, and tool steels.

“REM has been installing our technology for use on standard, subtractively manufactured components for over 30 years but metal additively manufactured components come with a unique set of surface finishing challenges,” REM President, Justin Michaud said. “REM has been providing outsourced processing solutions to the metal AM industry for approximately the last decade, and in that time, we have seen the need for installed solutions of our Extreme ISF® Process technology grow. It is for this reason that we set out to design a processing cell that would maximize the advantages of our chemical mechanical process technology while minimizing processing costs.”

REM states the Extreme ISF® Process Cell will be the first of multiple version to be released over the next 18-24 months, to provide customers with a range of equipment options to fit the variety of component shapes, sizes, and alloys that are most prevalent in metal AM and require the superior surface finish and dynamic fatigue benefits generated by our technology.
