Brenham, Texas, (March 29, 2019)– REM Surface Engineering reported this month the publication of a chapter where Senior Research Chemist & Lead Additive Manufacturing Scientist, Agustin Diaz, Ph.D. authored in collaboration with publisher, Elsevier. The title of the chapter: Surface Texture Characterization and Optimization of Metal Additive Manufacturing-Produced Components for Aerospace Applications, will be published in the forthcoming book, “Additive Manufacturing for the Aerospace Industry” (ISBN: 978-0-12-814062-8).
REM’s Dr. Agustin Diaz was solicited to author this chapter based on his and REM’s extensive work in the metal additive manufacturing industry regarding the post-printing (post-processing) surface finishing of components.
“The surface texture of AM components is extremely rich, and it is filled with many features that make them challenging to characterize with the current technology”, Dr. Diaz says. “It is of general knowledge in the aerospace community that the mechanical properties of a component will depend on their surface texture integrity.”
REM CEO, Justin Michaud offered further comment, “Many metal AM components come with surface finish specifications that lack adequate definition or that are based solely off of traditional, subtractively manufactured components. Advancing the industry’s understanding in both of these areas will strengthen the adoption rate of metal AM components in appropriate applications.”
